L-Leucine is an essential amino acid with the chemical formula C6H13NO2. It is an enantiomer with D-leucine. It is a white, shiny hexahedral crystal or a white crystalline powder at room temperature. It is odorless and slightly bitter. It sublimates at 145-148°C. The melting point is 293-295°C (decomposition). It is stable in aqueous inorganic acid solutions in the presence of hydrocarbons. It is slightly soluble in ethanol (0.07%), soluble in dilute hydrochloric acid and alkaline hydroxide and carbonate solutions. It is insoluble in ether.
L-Leucine was first isolated from cheese by Proust in 1819. Later, Braconnot obtained its crystals from the acid hydrolyzate of muscle and wool and named it leucine. L-Leucine is one of the eight essential amino acids for the human body. It belongs to the aliphatic amino acids among the twenty protein amino acids. It is one of the three major branched-chain amino acids together with L-isoleucine and L-valine.
The Function of L-leucine 1. L-leucine is an essential amino acid. Adult men need 2.2g/d. It is necessary for the normal growth of infants and the maintenance of normal nitrogen balance in adults. This product is used as a nutritional supplement, to prepare amino acid infusion and comprehensive amino acid preparations, hypoglycemic agents, and plant growth promoters. According to my country's GB 2760-86, this product can be used as a spice.
2. L-leucine is used as amino acid infusion and comprehensive amino acid preparations. It is used for the diagnosis and treatment of idiopathic hyperglycemia in young children. It is also suitable for glucose metabolism disorders, liver diseases with decreased bile secretion, anemia, poisoning, muscular atrophy, sequelae of poliomyelitis, neuritis and mental illness.
